The asphalt extraction filter is used for determining the bitumen content of asphalt mixtures in accordance with the Asphalt Binder Extraction Method. Accurate determination of bitumen percentage in asphalt mixtures is critically important for quality control, performance evaluation, and contractual matters between employers and contractors. Therefore, the use of a reliable laboratory asphalt extraction filter with consistent physical properties is a key requirement for this test.
Considering all technical requirements and the specifications defined in ASTM D2172, LabLand introduces the IB450 Asphalt Extraction Filter, manufactured by CHM (Spain), as a reliable and standardized solution for asphalt laboratories.
IB450 Asphalt Extraction Filter – CHM (Spain)
The IB450 asphalt extraction filters are supplied in original manufacturer packaging of 100 pieces, with each filter sheet having a uniform weight of 20 g, an outer diameter of 247 mm, and an inner diameter of 45 mm. Each package is provided with a unique Catalog Number and Batch Number, ensuring full traceability.
Uniform physical properties across all filter sheets, precise manufacturing, and competitive pricing make this product a preferred choice for asphalt testing laboratories. Full compliance with national and international standards ensures consistent and reliable performance during extraction tests.
This filter is suitable for asphalt extraction devices with a capacity of 1500 g.
Key Features of the Asphalt Extraction Filter

Applications of the Asphalt Extraction Filter
Asphalt produced in asphalt plants consists of a controlled mixture of aggregates, bitumen, and filler, known as the asphalt mix design. In road construction projects, the bitumen content is one of the most critical parameters affecting asphalt quality, cost, and contractual acceptance.
In this test, a representative sample of hot asphalt is taken prior to paving by an accredited laboratory and transported to the laboratory using an asphalt flask. Depending on the extraction device capacity, 1500 g or 3000 g of the asphalt sample is placed into the extraction bowl. A single extraction filter sheet is positioned over the bowl, and the device lid is securely closed.
Using approved solvents specified in the standard (commonly gasoline in Iran) and operating the extraction device at approximately 3000 rpm, centrifugal force separates the bitumen from the aggregate. The dissolved bitumen and solvent are discharged into an external container, while washed aggregates, dissolved binder, and filler retained on the filter are obtained as test outputs.
After drying the aggregates in a laboratory oven and weighing them, the aggregate percentage is calculated. The solvent is then removed from the bitumen using an oven or furnace to determine the bitumen content by weight. Finally, by drying the extraction filter and comparing its final weight with the initial weight, the filler content is calculated. The complete test results are then reported to the employer or contractor.
Given the frequent use of this test, the availability of high-quality extraction filters with uniform weight and physical properties at a reasonable cost is a major concern for municipal quality control laboratories, private testing laboratories, and asphalt producers. LabLand, in cooperation with CHM Spain, has made this solution readily available.
